The maker behind the work

The Ditchling Cabinet Maker is the work of one person: Carl Pooley, furniture maker and designer, based in Ditchling, East Sussex.

Carl is City & Guilds trained in Furniture Making and has spent more than 15 years working for private clients across Sussex and Surrey. Every commission is designed and built by Carl himself — from the initial conversation through to installation. There is no outsourcing, no CNC production, and no shortcuts.

The work spans kitchens, wardrobes, dressing rooms, home offices, under-stair storage, alcove units, bookcases, floating shelves and other bespoke projects. What all of it has in common is care: in the materials chosen, the joints cut, the finishes applied, and the way each piece is made to suit the specific space and person it’s made for.

The workshop is near Ditchling Common, close to Brighton & Hove. Carl works with clients across East Sussex — including Brighton, Hove, Lewes, Uckfield and Haywards Heath — and across into Surrey and West Sussex.
